Fall Is Just Around
The Corner!
It has
been a busy summer for all of us here at Miles-Richmond. With the
abnormally mild summer we experiences, it has been a great year for
building. We have missed very little time on outside work do to
weather. It’s been great working conditions for our crews. But, as all
summers seem to do, it has just gone by to fast. We can’t seem to wait
for summer to arrive then before you know it, its over.
We have
been busy with many new home projects and remodeling jobs. We also
managed to help with the construction of a ship (see the Community
Project section for more details). We are also trying to expand our
showroom space again. Adding about another 900 SF of showroom area by
taking over more of the hardware area we had down stairs. This is a
slow process, and a work in progress, as we haven’t had much time for
our crews to work on it. We hope to have it open sometime this winter.
Look for an update in the next newsletter.
We are
also creating a new wood shop area in our lumber shed, moving it from
its present location in the “brick building”. Big changes in the future
for the brick building stay tuned.
We’re
also planning our first (and maybe last) Miles-Richmond employee golf
outing. Having a lot of interest from our employees we’re going to give
it a try. Just to give you some insight of the “experienced” golfers we
have; we are trying to round up enough sets of clubs so everyone doesn’t
have to share. It should be a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to
it.
Hope all
of you have had a great summer. Stop in and see us next time your in
the area.

JOBS:
As I said it’s be a busy summer, especially with new homes. We
currently have five at different stages and two more to get in the
ground. We also have a large addition to start on Bath Bank in the next
month or so. From Oxford to Richmond to Connersville, we’re spread out
as usual. Keep checking the web site for updated pictures of these
projects.
PRODUCTS:
Our Mannington displays are in! Offering vinyl, laminate, tile and
hardwood; come see the new chooses available. Mannington offers some
very realistic tile and wood looks in their vinyl and laminate
products. They offer a laminate wood look that simulates a 6” wide
plank floor that conceals the joints where the product butts together.
Their tile look in a laminate gives you that realistic tile look with
the durability of a laminate and NO grout.
Mannington’s vinyl flooring product selection also includes a wide
selection of product looks. From traditional to tile to wood they all
look great!
Also
don’t miss there hardwood and porcelain tile selections. They offer a
hand hewn hardwood floor and bamboo. And all their porcelain tile
selections have bull nose tile to match so they can be used in almost
any application.
We have
increased our Kraus carpet selection to include not only the commercial
style carpets; we have been showing, but also their plush carpet line.
We also
have available some of Swanstone’s new product offering in shower
accessories, wall panels and wainscoting. Also quartz kitchen sinks.
So stop
in and let one of our sales staff show you all we have to offer.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
The
building industry, like may industries, is constantly changing. With
new products, updates to the old products, environmental issues and
governmental regulations, it’s a constant battle to stay up to date. We
do our best, here at Miles-Richmond, to stay up with the latest
information concerning these issues. We attend various seminars and
trade shows. And we read may trade publication which address what’s out
there that is affecting our industry. We go to this effort to help
insure that our customers receive the best possible service and
protection we can offer.
But as
consumers you need to be diligent also in making sure you don’t put
yourself in a position you may regret later. The following is a list of
things to look for as you enter into your next construction or
remodeling project.
-
Is your contractor
reputable?
- Word of mouth is
the best advertisement. Talk to others that have had work done and
see if they would recommend someone. When you just call a number
out of a phone book you don’t know who you’re getting and it may
require more work on your behalf to qualify them.
- Ask for
references from the contractor of people they have done work for in
your area or similar type projects.
- Have them show
you photos of work they have done.
-
Is your contractor insured?
- Anytime you hire
someone to work on property you, you expose yourself to liability
issues. To avoid this liability you need to make sure they are
insured.
- Ask for a
certificate of insurance.
- General
liability coverage - $1,000,000 General Aggregate is not
uncommon and is a good minimum limit to look for.
- Workman’s
Compensation and Employer’s Liability – This is handled
differently in Indiana and Ohio, but in either location proof of
coverage is available.
- Also any
sub-contractors that work for your general contractor need to be
insured also. Here at Miles-Richmond We have a subcontractor
agreement with our subs that requires them to carry the proper
insurance.
-
Is your contractor
licensed?
- In Indiana and
Ohio there is no licensing required for general contractors.
However certain mechanical contractors are required to be licensed.
-
Does your contractor
operate in a professional manner?
- Sets
appointments and keeps them. Calls to let you know if they are
running late or to reschedule.
- Prepares a
detailed proposal.
- Listing the
specifications for your project.
- Listing the
total price for the project.
- Spells out the
payment schedule.
-
Does the contractor have
a reputation of standing behind their work?
This is just some items you need to
consider the next time you have work done at your home or business.
From the staff at Miles-Richmond, may
God continue to bless you and your family!
